Our Steps to a fall clean-up
What makes our fall clean-up different from others?
- At Property Service Guys we take a different approach to fall clean up. First off we do it in two to three stages. This makes your yard usable throughout the fall as the leaves are not left until the end of the season. The other big difference is that we mulch leaves.
Leaves are an exceptional source of organic matter that can provide an exceptional source of natural fertilizer for your lawn while at the same time feeding the microbes in your lawn that are essential for a healthy lawn. Most companies remove all of the leaves from your yard in the fall and then charge you more in the spring and summer to top-dress your yard with compost. Why pay for all of the labour to have the leaves removed and then pay to have compost put on your lawn when we can do it all in one step.
Mulching leaves is a very effective way a speeding up the composting process while at the same time giving you a clean looking yard. By using commercial mowers with mulch kits, leaves are broken down so much that in most cases they will just look like dust or very small confetti. To ensure that this organic layer is not too thick on your yard we then using bagging mowers and lawn vacuums to pick up the excess particulate. This makes your yard look like it has had all of the leaves removed while allowing your yard to reap the benefits of all of the natural organic fertilizer that just is sitting on your yard.
Three Reasons why mulching leaves is better than disposal
1. Soil Enrichment: Leaf mulch returns nutrients back to the soil. Your lawn and gardens will require less fertilizer and other additives.
2. Water Conservation: Leaf mulch helps retain moisture in soils. When soil is covered with leaf mulch, the mulch lowers the soil's exposure to sun and wind which reduces evaporation.
3. Insulation: Mulch acts like an insulating barrier from the heat in the summer, from the cold in the winter and from the wind all year round. Mulch prevents compaction and erosion of soils from wind and rain.
NOTE:
-Mulching is not for all yards. Yards that have excessive amounts of leaves will not be able to successfully break down the mulched leaves over the winter. In these cases we can do the standard style of leaf removal.
-Yards that contain lots of pine needles or lots of oak leaves will require us to remove the pine needles first as they can affect soil pH if left to breakdown over the winter.
